A Quad Text Set is intended to support a science or social studies topic by introducing key vocabulary and building students’ background knowledge. Participants will use the QTS planning template to build their own QTS for use in the classroom.
This session will explore simple processes that students must master in order to make sense of complex, grade level text. We will explore comprehension at the sentence level, how students can use background knowledge effectively, and making inferences. Participants will leave with a toolkit of before, during, and after reading strategies that support deeper understanding of texts used across content classes.

Participants will learn how to think aloud their writing choices, articulate their decision-making, and provide clear, visible examples that empower students to develop their own writing skills and confidence.
